Charlie Waite
Charlie Waite is established as one of the world’s leading Landscape photographers. His photographic style is considered to be unique, in that his photographs show an almost spiritual quality of serenity and calm. He is known for his "painterly" approach in using light and shade. Born in England, he worked in theater and television for the first ten years of his professional life before moving into photography.
This photo was taken in Fuji, Japan. It looks like a painting but with the light and shade makings the texture makes it look unrealistic. He made the water look like chalk by not using much of a shutter speed. The mountains in the back look 2 denominational because of the low shadows they are. The fact that he made it black and white helps with the paint effect as well. It has this depressing feel because of the dark skies. There is foreground(boats), middle ground(water and ground) and back ground ( mountain and skies). The shadow dept of field is mostly the middle ground where all the darkness falls.
